Tibetan & Nepalese Buddha Sculptures
The Buddha – today believed to have lived around 550 to 600 B.C. – and his teachings, philosophy and way of life have inspired people throughout Asia. Because his teachings are so deeply enshrined, Buddha sculptures hold a central place in the lives of all followers. Today, Buddhism is also known in the Western world as a source of inspiration.

At first glance, Tibetan-Nepali Buddha sculptures may appear inspired by Indian-Hindu art. However, the art of Lamaism in Tibet has been part of Buddhism for more than 1,000 years, and earlier pre-Buddhist, pre-Hindu and pre-Hellenistic forms remain visible. Within Tibetan Buddhism there are several ways of representing the Buddha. The forms found in Nepal and Tibet are mostly incarnated deities such as Bodhisattvas, Maitreya Buddha, Vajrasattva, Manjushri and many others.
The Seated Buddha, expressing the Eastern wisdom of peaceful and extrasensory perception, is often considered especially impressive. Statues of the Graceful Buddha, which show the influence of Hinduism, are equally meaningful. In Western countries, the traditional statue of Shakyamuni is the most popular.
The collection below shows small and large Buddha sculptures from different regions of Tibet and Nepal, crafted from different materials. The silver Buddha statues are undoubtedly rare collector’s objects. All Buddha sculptures are less than 100 years old and of very high artistic value.
