The stupa (Tibetan chorten) symbolises the enlightened mind of the Buddha; its stepped base, dome, spire of rings and crowning finial correspond to stages on the path. This altar stupa has a stepped square base decorated in relief and set with small red stones, a dome with an arched niche, a tiered spire and a parasol-like canopy. The metal appears to be gilt or brass-toned. Height 48 cm.
