Vajrapani, 'holder of the vajra', is the wrathful bodhisattva of spiritual power and protector of the Buddha's teaching. Here a deep-blue carved figure, described as lapis lazuli, shows him striding with raised arm before a pointed aureole. It is mounted in a silver frame edged with green and red stones, on a stepped rectangular base with small feet. Height 14 cm.
