Manjushri is the bodhisattva of wisdom, traditionally shown wielding the flaming sword that cuts through ignorance. This thangka has an unusual composition: a small circular medallion with the deity at the centre of a large gold-toned field filled with fine, minute repeated motifs, set behind a crimson mat. Size 62 × 75 cm.
